Surface run-off can occur when water from rain or cleaning falls on impermeable surfaces such as buildings, roads and concrete yards. As water flows over a surface it can pick up any polluting materials and carry them to drains and the water environment.
You must manage your site drainage to prevent surface run-off on your site causing pollution. If you cause or allow pollution of surface waters or ground waters you will be committing an offence and may be prosecuted.
Sustainable drainage systems (SUDS) can help you manage your site drainage, reducing the risk of pollution and flooding.
